Sebastian Fagerlund
Chamber Symphony
Description
Sebastian Fagerlund's Chamber Symphony is a 26-minute work for chamber orchestra consisting of three movements which immediately follow each other. It begins with a slow movement interrupted twice by contrasting fast material before the melodic line becomes audible. A scherzo episode develops in the fast second movement. Its climax is followed by a slow third movement.
In this composition, Fagerlund is interested in a slow, almost imperceptible transformation, with the music beginning to grow out of stasis into new relationships between the fundamental materials – in the composer's words, "like musical components floating and rearranging themselves in a new order."
