Auer

Description

Auer (1998/99) (eng. haze) is a piece that was originally written for a collaboration project between the young composers Ears Open Society and the Lauttasaari Music Institute. The idea was to compose music that could be performed by young instrumentalists in their early/middle stages of their training.

In the piece one can perhaps hear the influence of the Second Viennese School, apparent in the sparse orchestration and the dance-like pulse. Furthermore, the melodies soar from instrument to instrument in a dialogue-like fashion, reminiscent perhaps of Alban Berg.

A shorter version of the piece was performed during the project.
