Description

All days begin from a single day

As I walk I clutch a stone in my hand

From words island, from the island the boundaries

Vilja-Tuulia Huotarinen (2013)

Radiophonic piece It is always today is a journey into oneself. The narrator is on an island and becomes an island. Before the piece begins there has been a tragedy, which leads the narrator into isolation. The French texts by Elke de Rijcke, describing an airport space, paint a picture where the affections are "torn to pieces in the agonizing cold". Icy shell of these frozen feelings grow over the narrator and she/he is alone with her/his thoughts. The transformation from this lonely space begins into another one, that is full of life. After the ice rind has flaked and freed the narrator she/he steps onto a busy street and a comfortable warmth of a Parisian cafe. Decisions have been made to lead a life how one desires. The journey begun from a single day, that could be any day, or today. It is comforting to realise that it is always today.
