5 Sonetter för kammarorkester
by Ernest Pingoud
Viisi sonettia kamariorkesterille, Sonetteja kamariorkesterille
Description
In his sparse and abstract Sonnets Pingoud deviates from the orchestral poems with their richness of styles and universes. Scored for a small ensemble (single winds, French horn, strings), each of the five movements traces a simple, guileless arch. The closing movement is Webernian in its brevity (10 bars), and the work could almost be regarded as a parallel to the aphoristic period of Schönberg, Berg and Webern, even though Pingoud does not aim at a similar flash-like mode of communication.

Poikkeamana Pingoud'n maailmojasyleilevistä ja tyylillisesti laaja-alaisista orkesterirunoelmista on 5 Sonette für Kammerorchester ilmaisultaan pelkistetyn karu ja abstrakti. Teos on kirjoitettu pienelle kokoonpanolle (erilaisia puupuhaltimia yhdet kutakin, käyrätorvi, jouset), ja jokainen viidestä osasta piirtää yhden eleettömän kaarroksen. Päätösosa on suorastaan webernmäisen lyhyt (10 tahtia), ja teosta voi pitää Schönbergin, Bergin ja Webernin atonaalisen kauden aforistisuuden rinnakkaisilmiönä, vaikkei Pingoud olekaan pyrkinyt samanlaiseen välähdyksenomaiseen sanontaan.
