Description

The second string quartet (1994) is based on a diatonic four-note sclae with one chromatic addition (E-F-G-G#-A). This nucleus is hidden in the rugged opening, reduced to frail three-note motifs and condensed into energetic fields of scales, sounds and rhythm, where details disappear and the overall form becomes evident. The form of this single-movement work is a series of contrasts and blends, a continuous flow of ragged clouds, stagnant water and refreshing breezes.© Pekka Jalkanen(translated by © Jaakko Mäntyjärvi)Jousikvartetto 2 (1994) perustuu yhden kromaattisen sävelen maustamaan nelisävelikköön (e-f-g-gis-a).
