<p>Jouko Tötterström (b. 1956) is a Doctor of Music, pianist, pedagogue, and composer from Oulu. He studied composition with Erland Sundquist, Paavo Heininen and Kari Kuosmanen. Tötterström has worked as a principal piano teacher at the Oulu Conservatory and as a principal lecturer at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences' School of Media and Performing Arts.</p><p> Tötterström has been the artistic director of the New Music’s October (Uuden musiikin lokakuu) contemporary music festival and is now the chairman of the Contemporary Music Society October (Lokakuu). His compositional output is extensive. It includes, for example, two symphonies, a piano concerto, a chamber opera, ballet, choral works, chamber music, solo instrumental works, and a particularly rich amount of piano music. </p><p> Tötterström's music has been widely played by several orchestras as well as various soloists and chamber ensembles in Finland and abroad. Many musicians are his long-time collaborators. One of the most important of these is pianist Laura Mikkola, who has premiered Tötterström's Piano Concerto and played many of his other works.</p>
