<p>Paavo Heininen has often been called the grand old man of Finnish Modernism. He remained true to its ideals, regarding Modernism as openness to all existing possibilities.</p> <p>His extensive output includes among others symphonies and vocal music and though his works are known for their complexity, they have also been described as marked by joy of living and even sense of humour. Paavo Heininen was also hugely influential as a teacher, serving as Professor of Composition at the Sibelius Academy.</p>
