Vellu Halkosalmi

Vellu Halkosalmi is a versatile composer and arranger for many front line orchestras, such as the dutch Metropole Orchestra, UMO Jazz Orchestra, WDR Big Band, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Helsinki and Lahti Symphonies and Lappland Chamber Orchestra among others. As a composer Halkosalmi’s long list of works includes many works for finnish saxophone player Jukka Perko with different ensembles, a 5-piece suite for jazz guitar and chamber orchestra written for Teemu Viinikainen, a ballet “STRiVE!” for Big Band, a miniature opera and many more. He has won the 2nd Esko Linnavalli Big Band compostition contest in 2007, and was a finalist at the Brussels Jazz Orchestra composition competition in 2009. In Finland Halkosalmi is also known for his work in the field of music education.
