Esa-Pekka Salonen
Esa-Pekka Salonen is not only an internationally celebrated conductor but also a significant composer. Being a conductor, he has excellent command of writing for both large and small orchestra in a way that is gratifying for the musicians. His compositions have been described as inventive and cerebral.
His relocation to Los Angeles in the 1990s brought new, more relaxed tones to his idiom and he has been compared to composers as diverse as Stravinsky, Lutoslawski and John Adams.
