Poseidon

Fennica Gehrman

Description

Poseidon was commissioned by the Washington National Symphony Orchestra. Bergman claimed that to him, Poseidon means both the ancient god of the sea and “a symbol of the source of primitive strength and creativity”. His sea visions tend towards moods delicately painted in translucent orchestration but often with a sense of mystery about them. The striking feature of the first of the two movements is the Sibelian wind solos and ponderous overtones. In the first half of the second movement the waves of sound swell into mighty breakers before growing calmer again in a closing section of brittle mood.

Poseidon on syntynyt Washingtonin National Symphony Orchestran tilauksesta.
