Description

This collection is really the result of a series of self-imposed exercises in writing simple and accessible three-part music for liturgical use that could be coped with by a church choir. Although admittedly the harmonies involved do require an ambitious church choir, at least the number of parts does not pose problems. This is not a cycle; the motets are independent pieces. They are written in what I suppose could be described as a Neo-Classical style. The three-part motets date from 1999 and 2000; the Kyrie is considerably older (1993) and in four parts; it is included here for want of a better place to put it. © Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, 2002 Tämä kokoelma sisältää itse itselleni asettamia harjoituksia, joiden tarkoituksena oli tuottaa kirkkokuoron esitettävissä olevaa yksinkertaista ja helposti lähestyttävää liturgista musiikkia. Vaikka kappaleiden harmoniat itse asiassa edellyttävät melko kunnianhimoista kirkkokuoroa, ei ainakaan stemmojen lukumäärä ole esteenä. Kokoelma ei ole sarja; motetit ovat erillisiä teoksia. Niiden tyyliä voisi kai lähinnä luonnehtia uusklassiseksi.
