Dream light, shadow stone

Music Finland

Description

Dream light, shadow stone is based upon exchange poems by the Japanese monks Ryokan and Teishin, from "Hachisu no tsuyu" (Dewdrops on a Lotus Leaf, 1835). It also contains a verse by the classic Persian poet Hafez, "Patience can turn a stone into a jewel" (from "Divan"). The image of jewel is related to Buddhist philosophy, but I had also another reference in mind: the verse is quoted by the contemporary Persian poet Ziba Karbassi, in a poem about lapidation.
