Ambra

Music Finland

Description

The word ‘Ambra’ means amber. The piece is based on a poem by Baudelaire, Correspondances (Correspondences). In this poem some perfumes like amber, musk, benzoin and incense have the capasity to extend infinitely and to unite the spirit with the senses. For me as a composer the main interest to write this piece was to research some special very delicate colours, and to create a complex global form. However as in the level of musical material the piece is concentrated just in some progressions and gestures, so with the help of those ‘signs’ it is possible to follow a rather capricious progress of the piece. © Juha T. Koskinen, 1997
